✈️ Fast-Track Immigration in India: Who Can Use It, Eligible Airports and How to Register

Long immigration queues can be one of the most time-consuming parts of international travel. To make the process faster, India has introduced the Fast-Track Immigration–Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP), which allows eligible passengers to use biometric e-gates instead of regular immigration counters.

The programme is free of charge and is currently available at 13 Indian airports, with Goa also approved for activation. For frequent international travellers, FTI-TTP can significantly simplify both arrival and departure formalities

🛂 What Is Fast-Track Immigration?

The FTI-TTP is a biometric-based immigration facility operated through automated e-gates.

Instead of waiting at a conventional immigration counter, registered travellers can use their passport and biometric information to complete immigration clearance through the e-gates.

According to the latest information, eligible passengers can complete the e-gate process in under 30 seconds, although actual processing time can vary depending on airport conditions and verification.

👥 Who Can Use FTI-TTP?

The programme is currently available to:

  • 🇮🇳 Indian citizens
  • 🌍 Foreign nationals holding an OCI card

However, eligibility comes with some restrictions.

🚫 Who Is Not Eligible?

  • Travellers holding an ECR passport
  • Children below 7 years of age

Children aged 7–18 can register using a parent’s or guardian’s email ID and mobile number, subject to the programme’s requirements.

🏦 Which Airports Offer Fast-Track Immigration?

FTI-TTP e-gates are currently available at these 13 international airports:

  1. ✈️ Delhi
  2. ✈️ Mumbai
  3. ✈️ Ahmedabad
  4. ✈️ Kolkata
  5. ✈️ Chennai
  6. ✈️ Bengaluru
  7. ✈️ Hyderabad
  8. ✈️ Cochin
  9. ✈️ Lucknow
  10. ✈️ Amritsar
  11. ✈️ Calicut
  12. ✈️ Trivandrum
  13. ✈️ Trichy

Goa Airport has also been approved for activation, expanding the programme’s reach further.

📝 How to Register for Fast-Track Immigration

You cannot simply arrive at the airport and use an FTI-TTP e-gate. Advance registration and biometric enrolment are required.

Step 1: Apply Online

Applicants need to provide their personal information and complete identity verification using:

📱 Mobile OTP verification
📧 Email verification
📸 Recent passport-size photograph
🛂 Required passport pages
🪪 OCI documents, where applicable

Your passport should have at least six months’ validity when you apply.

Step 2: Complete Biometric Enrolment

After submitting the application, applicants must enrol their:

  • 👆 Fingerprints
  • 🙂 Facial image

This can be completed at a designated international airport or an FRRO office.

Step 3: Wait for Approval

The registration process can take up to one month, so travellers are advised to apply well before an international trip.

🛫 How Does the E-Gate Work?

Once your FTI-TTP registration is approved, using the facility at the airport is relatively straightforward:

1️⃣ Go to the FTI-TTP e-gates at the international terminal.

2️⃣ Scan your passport as instructed.

3️⃣ Complete biometric verification.

4️⃣ The system verifies your identity.

5️⃣ Immigration clearance is processed automatically.

The e-gates can be used for both international arrivals and departures at participating airports.

📱 Is FTI-TTP the Same as DigiYatra?

No.

FTI-TTP and DigiYatra are two separate systems serving different airport functions.

DigiYatra

Primarily helps streamline airport passenger processing through digital identity and facial recognition.

FTI-TTP

Specifically focuses on immigration clearance through biometric e-gates for eligible international travellers.

Therefore, having a DigiYatra profile does not automatically enrol you in FTI-TTP. Travellers must register separately for the immigration programme.

🆓 Is There a Registration Fee?

No. FTI-TTP registration is free.

The programme is particularly useful for frequent international travellers because membership can remain valid for up to 10 years, subject to the applicable programme conditions.

🌍 Why Frequent Travellers Should Consider It

For people who regularly travel internationally, FTI-TTP offers several potential advantages:

⏱️ Less time in immigration queues

🛂 Automated immigration processing

🙂 Biometric verification

🆓 No registration fee

🔁 Useful for repeated international travel

🏢 Available at multiple major Indian airports

The biggest benefit is convenience: once registered and approved, eligible travellers can use the dedicated e-gates rather than relying on the conventional immigration queue.

⚠️ Important Things to Remember

Before relying on FTI-TTP for your next international trip, keep these points in mind:

  • ✅ Register before travelling.
  • ✅ Complete biometric enrolment after submitting the application.
  • ✅ Carry your passport even if you are a registered FTI-TTP user.
  • ✅ Make sure your passport meets the validity requirement at registration.
  • ✅ Check whether your departure or arrival airport has an operational FTI-TTP facility.
  • ❌ DigiYatra registration does not replace FTI-TTP registration.
  • ❌ ECR passport holders cannot enrol.
  • ❌ Children below seven are not eligible.

🧳 Who Should Register?

FTI-TTP can be especially useful for:

👔 Business travellers
🌍 Frequent international tourists
👨‍👩‍👧 Families who regularly travel abroad
🎓 Students travelling internationally
✈️ Indians who frequently fly from major international airports

Occasional international travellers can also register, but they should allow enough time for the application and biometric enrolment process.

India’s Fast-Track Immigration–Trusted Traveller Programme is designed to make international airport immigration quicker and more convenient for eligible travellers. With biometric e-gates already available at 13 airports and Goa approved for activation, the network is becoming increasingly useful for frequent flyers.

The key point is that FTI-TTP is not an automatic airport benefit. Travellers must register in advance, complete biometric enrolment and receive approval before they can use the dedicated immigration e-gates.

If you travel internationally often, registering ahead of your next trip could save valuable time at the airport.
